Congratulations to this week's V.I.P - Ruby! Well done for your fantastic work all week, you have been a superstar! laugh

Our topic this term is 'Ty Glo' which translates from Welsh as: Coal House. During this term, we will be looking into how the coal industry impacted on Welsh children in a variety of ways. Based on our pupil voice discussions, the children will be learning about:

These discussion points will cover a range of subjects, including: Literacy, Science, Art, History and Geography as we explore what it means to be a coal family in Wales.

Please see the document below for the Mid Term plan for 'Ty Glo'.

The Four Core Purposes

The four purposes are that all children and young people will be:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
  • Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work.
  • Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.
  • Healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

In Dosbarth Wye, we will support ourselves and each other in becoming Ambitious, Capable Learners; Enterprising, Creative Contributors; Ethical, informed citizens and Healthy, Confident Individuals. This will be achieved through collaboration and independent work both inside and outside our classroom.

Modern Foreign Languages

This year we are going to be learning German. We will be learning key German phrases through fun games and activities.

As well as German, we will be continuing to learn Welsh each week. This term, our Welsh topic is 'Hamdden' which means 'Leisure'. We're learning how to speak about all our favourite sports and activities in Welsh, and discuss our opinions with friends!

https://www.languagenut.com/en-gb/

Languagenut is a fantastic tool where children can access resources to support the development of their new language (German). Each child will have their own log in details where they can gain points for activities completed. Languagenut will also give you the correct pronunciation of words and phrases.

All children should have brought home their login details, however if you need a reminder please contact year5@stdavidsprm.cardiff.sch.uk.

Homework will be placed on Google Classroom every Friday. Please submit all homework by the following Wednesday so we are able to look at your wonderful work and send this back to you.

Each week, children will be asked to complete either a piece of numeracy or literacy based homework which will alternate from week to week. There will also be a termly homework grid sent out based on our topic. Children may do as many homework tasks as they like over the course of the term. Please see below for this terms homework grid. Children are allowed to complete their homework in whichever format they wish to choose. E.g hwb, PowerPoint, homework book, posters, etc.

Weekly spellings will also be taught in class and given to the children to practise at home.

The children will be rewarded for completing their homework by receiving dojos!
