Why do we have castles?
What is a castle?
Why do castles look like they do?
Are dragons real?
Where would dragons live if they were real?
Why is there a dragon on the flag?
Are castles old?
Who live in castles?
We have had a fantastic and very busy half term. Please click the link below to see a snapshot of what we have been doing this half term.

Reading
Please bring your book bag to school every day. Children will be reading in school daily and we will ensure your child's book is changed weekly. Please remember to do some reading at home every night.
Snack
Please bring a bottle of water to school daily, clearly labelled with your name. Healthy snacks can be purchased from the snack trolley (ordered via ParentPay) or brought in from home.
PE
Please wear your PE kit to school on Thursday. Children should wear black shorts, house colour or white t-shirt and trainers, labelled clearly with their name. They may also wear black jogging bottoms when completing activities outdoors. Mrs Underhill-Jones will be teaching PE on Thursday afternoons either in the hall or outside (weather permitting).
Uniform
Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name.
Throughout the Spring term, Mrs Maunder will run the Year 1 Arts and Crafts club in school every Tuesday 3.25pm - 4.25pm (beginning Tuesday 10th January).
Please contact clubs@stdavidsprm.cardiff.sch.uk to find out if there are spaces to join, or to be added to the reserve list.
There will be alternative clubs running in the spring and summer terms too.
VIP
Our VIP is Alfie, for always being a fantastic role model to the other children. Everyone at St David's wishes Alfie all the best at his new school.
Homework
Homework will be placed on Google Classroom every Friday. Please submit all homework by
the following Wednesday so we are able to look at your wonderful work and send this back
to you.
Each week, children will be asked to complete either a piece of numeracy or literacy
based homework which will alternate from week to week. There will also be a termly
homework grid sent out based on our topic. Children may do as many homework tasks as
they like over the course of the term. Please see below for this terms homework
grid. Children are allowed to complete their homework in whichever format they wish
to choose. E.g hwb, PowerPoint, on paper, videos etc.
Weekly spellings and Phonics sounds will also be taught in class and given to the children to practise at home.
The children will be rewarded for completing their homework by receiving dojos!
Below is a homework grid that you can use at home to complete some fun and independent
activities linked to our current topic. Please don't hesitate to share any of your wonderful
work with us. Diolch!
If you have any questions regarding homework, then please do not hesitate to contact us via our Year 1 email address.
We look forward to welcoming you back and working together with you and your children this year. If you ever have and queries or questions, please contact us on our school email address year1@stdavidsprm.cardiff.sch.uk
Value - Creativity
Sometimes called ‘Creation,’ this value reminds us of God as creator - of the wonderful world we live in and of us, his people. Creativity is at the heart of teaching and learning within our school and we place great importance on the creative arts and valuing the environment and talents God has given us.
"The heavens tell the glory of God. And the skies announce what his hands have made." Psalm 19:1. Please take time to look at our Home School Values sheet as this helps you to explore values and have fun together.
Meet the teacher!
