Classroom routines

Snack

Please bring a bottle of water to school daily, clearly labelled with your child's name.  Healthy snacks can be purchased from the snack trolley or brought in from home.  Please only bring one piece of snack such as an apple, breadsticks or yoghurt pouch.

PE

Please wear PE kit to school on Monday's. Children should wear black shorts, house colour or white t-shirt and trainers, labelled clearly with their name. They may also wear black jogging  bottoms when completing activities outdoors. 

Uniform

Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name.

Spare clothes

Please ensure that your child has a spare set of clothes every day in their bag that includes a top, skirt or trousers, pants and socks or tights. Please can you also include wet wipes.

Under the Sea

This half term we will look at the topic 'Under the Sea'.  In this topic the children will find out about different creatures that live under the sea and discover the ocean as habitat.   In Science we will explore the properties of sand and investigate water.  In RVE we will think about multi faith and no faith and explore our school values. In Welsh we will explore the key questions and language patterns of: 'Beth sy’ yn y fferm? and 'Beth wyt ti eisiau?'  We will continue to learn some Italian and will look at “Cosa abitano in fondo al mare?" (Who lives in the sea?)  and “Cosa mangiano?” (What do they eat?) .  In Maths, we will begin to count in 2's, combinbe two groups of objects together abnd begin to take away.  We will continue to learn our RWI phonics sounds and begin to blend them to read simple CVC words, develop our oracy skills and practice forming letters correctly in our Literacy sessions.  We will also look at the story 'The Rainbow fish'.

Homework

Summer term 1 homework grid. Children may do as many homework tasks as they like and bring them into school to share with the class whenever a task has been completed. Weekly homework will be uploaded onto our Google classroom page on a Friday. Please return by Wednesday.

Our Christian Value for this half term is Respect

Respect – A Christian value is to be conscious that God has created all people in His image. As a response, we show respect to all.

"Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor." – 1 Peter 2:17

Through whole school worship, class worship, relationships and discussion, we use bible stories to provide examples of respect and also explicitly give examples of how children can show and recognise examples of respect within school. This includes recognising others in our prayers, listening to others when they are talking to us, valuing others ideas and understanding that others may have different opinions. Looking after school property and resources and thinking about how talk to others in a respectful way etc.

Oxford Owl has some lovely mathematics games, including shape, addition, subtraction and even time. They also have downloadable resources including worksheets and wonderful advice for parents.

PE

P.E is on a Monday.  Your child will need to come to school in their PE kit. PE kit consists of  black shorts, house colour or white t-shirt and trainers, labelled clearly with their name. They may also wear black jogging bottoms and a school jumper for outside activities.

Welsh

Children will have opportunities to speak Welsh daily in school. We encourage the children to ask and answer questions using our 'Helper Heddiw'. We will begin by learning colours in Welsh, the weather and then about our feelings and asking 'Sut wyt ti?'

MFL

As part of modern foreign languages (MFL) Taff Fechan will be learning Italian. We will learn colours and numbers. Below is a song to help us.

Languagenut is a wonderful online tool where children can access resources to support the development of their new language (Italian). Each child will have their own log in details where they can gain points for activities completed. Languagenut will also give you the correct pronunciation of words and phrases. You can learn alongside your child! These points will show a class ranking, school ranking, and even our school ranking compared to all schools around the world. Reception have access to Italian and Welsh! At St David's we love multilingual children. Have fun!!

Snack

Healthy snacks are provided at £2 per week which can be paid for half termly via parent pay or please provide one piece of fresh fruit or vegetable for your child's snack every day. We are a healthy eating school so only provide a healthy snack such as an apple, banana, carrot sticks, oranges etc. Please note that grapes need to be sliced longways. Children may bring a bottle of water with their name clearly labelled to school to drink. We are happy to refill their bottles for them during the day. We will provide milk daily to the children who want it.

101 Experiences

We would like you to take part in our 101 Experiences challenge - 101 things for your child to experience during their time at St David’s C.I.W. Primary School. We would be delighted to see our children doing these activities outside of school, so please send in any evidence of each experience to nursery@stdavidsciwprm.cardiff.sch.uk 

Each time a child achieves 5 experiences from the same category, they will get a sticker which shows the religious character which symbolises the associated purpose from the Four Purposes of the new curriculum. 

Active Travel

WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably (walk, cycle or scoot) once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It's that easy!

Please support us on our Active Travel mission by encouraging your child to walk, cycle or scoot to school, or use our Park and Stride arrangements at Pentwyn Leisure Centre. This will help keep our bodies healthy and help reduce our carbon footprint.

Rights Respecting Schools

St David's CIW Primary School is proud to be a Rights Respecting School, which means we are a community where children's rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.

This half term we will be focusing on Articles 13, 14, 15 and 16 from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. 

Picture News

During our worship time on Mondays, we have been learning about current news, topics and events. Then we have been exploring the key questions linked to these further in class. Here are some of the questions we have been discussing.

When discussing the Picture News, we have been challenging ourselves to use new, ambitious vocabulary to describe our feelings and opinions.

Uniform

Nursery Girls:

• Black skirt/pinafore dress/shorts/trousers

• White polo shirt either plain or with school logo

• Green sweatshirt or cardigan, either plain or with school logo (without a hood)

• Plain black knee length socks or black tights

• During the summer green and white checked dresses with plain white short or knee length socks

Nursery Boys:

• Black shorts or trousers (no jogging bottoms)

• White polo shirt either plain or with school logo

• Green sweatshirt or cardigan, either plain or with school logo (without a hood)

• Plain black socks

Children need a change of clothes and footwear for P.E (for health and hygiene reasons) and a draw-string bag in which to keep the kit at school. All school uniform and P.E. kit must be labelled with your child’s name
