Croeso i Flwyddyn 1
Welcome to Year 1
We are really looking forward to welcoming you back after the Summer break. There are lots of exciting things planned for this year and we can't wait to start supporting your child with their learning.
Miss Fletcher, Mrs Thomas and Miss Stone
Our topic for this half term is:
Old and New (Toys)
We will be looking back at the past with a specific focus on toys. During our transition days, the children came up with questions that we will be exploring over the course of the term:
What were toys like in the past?
How did they make toys?
How many old toys did they have?
How much did old toys cost?
Did they have robot toys?
How did they make video games?
How do they make teddies?
How did they make a dolls house?
Where did they buy toys?
In addition to topic homework, which can be completed over the course of the term (please see the attached document above), the children will be set weekly or fortnightly tasks with a Literacy or Numeracy focus to complete at home. This might be a game or an activity that you can do together at home. It will be sent out on a Friday and will be due back in on the following Wednesday. Homework now needs to be completed in your child's new Homework book - we will no longer be using P4C books.
All topic homework completed by the children will be shared during the last week of term. Please send this in to us no later than Wednesday 23rd October 2019 in order for your child to share their work on the last two days of term.
If you have any questions regarding homework, then please do not hesitate in coming to see us.
This term we will be focussing on:-
Weekly problem solving activities.
Recognising, writing and ordering and investigating numbers to 20.
Reciting number sequences up to 50 forwards and backwards.
Recognising numbers before and after a given number and identifying 1and 2 more than/less than a given number.

Recognise, name and compare 2D and 3D shapes.
Our Christian Value this term is GENEROSITY
"God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians ch.9 v.7)
This term in school we will be focussing on the value Generosity. We will be hearing stories of generosity from the Bible and examples from our daily lives. We hope that you will explore this value together at home too.
When we think of generosity we usually think about being generous with our money or possessions. However, we can be generous with our time, our gifts and our abilities. Generous people often say that they receive much more than they give. Perhaps this is because when someone is generous to us, it makes us want to be generous in return.
P.E will be on a Monday and this term we will be focussing on gymnastics. Pupils will need black shorts, a t-shirt in their house colour and trainers. We would be very grateful if you could practice dressing and undressing with your child and folding clothes into a tidy pile. This will help us in class and minimise lost clothing!
If your child would like daily fruit provided by school, it is £1.50 per week and needs to be paid for in advance on Parent Pay. Or you may prefer to provide your child with their own daily fruit.
