Senior Leadership Team

Welcome Message from the Headteacher

It gives me great pleasure to write to you as Headteacher of St David's CiW Primary School and to welcome you to what I am sure will be another very busy and exciting year ahead!

Since starting my post as Headteacher at St David's,  I have been tremendously impressed by the whole school community, especially the children. Every time I step onto the yard I am welcomed by a sea of inquisitive smiley faces, each desperate to learn and immensely proud of their school.

Our school has a dedicated team that works very hard to reach high standards in everything we do and this is further embedded through our successful relationships with our parents and the wider community.  The children are at the heart of every decision we make to ensure that they are happy, confident individuals and that the opportunities we provide for them are relevant to their needs both now and in the future.

Through our engaging curriculum, we ensure that children can foster a passion for learning that will help to develop high aspirations and a lifetime of memories. We believe in ensuring that children receive a well-rounded curriculum; where individual talents can be spotted and nurtured to ensure that all children experience success and reach their full potential.

We look forward to working in close partnership with you throughout the year ahead, to ensure your child develops a love for learning and strong friendships, thus enabling them to be the best they can be. Please may we ask in return for your support in promoting our school’s core values with your child.  These values are respect, truth, trust, compassion friendship and responsibility.

I hope that this website will give you as much information as possible about our school, the staff and the many activities that our children enjoy through our curriculum and our extra-curricular activities that you need.  It will grow over time as we add more information, but can never replace the first-hand experience of coming to visit us.

I am very excited to lead St David' CiW Primary School  into future opportunities and I look forward to the many challenges in the years ahead.

Best wishes,

Mrs Claire Cook

Temporary ALNCO

Miss Zoe Morgan

With a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher, I am so proud and honoured to be a part of the wonderful team at St David’s Church In Wales Primary School. Born and raised in Bridgend, I spent my childhood making memories with my close-knit family, enjoying time with friends, and always pursuing my hobbies of singing, dancing, and acting. In 2017, I went to University of South Wales where I studied a three-year teacher training course; gaining experience from a range of primary schools and teachers; graduating with a First-Class Honours Degree. This training stood me in good stead, moulding me into the teacher I always dreamt of becoming.

The minute I walked into St David’s, I fell in love with the ethos, community, and wonderfully warm reception I received.  As a teacher, I pride myself on the welfare and happiness of the children in my classroom; whilst giving them a well-rounded and enjoyable education. With every class I have the pleasure of teaching, I will work my hardest to give them the courage and confidence to shine like the stars they are.

I am now so honoured to be fulfilling the role as ALNco for St David's and I will do my utmost to provide the right support, guidance and nurture for parents/guardians, families and children within our wonderful setting.

Health and Well-Being Leader

Mrs Alyson Underhill-Jones

Originally from Pentwyn (I attended Nursery at St. David’s CIW) I grew up in Sully and Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan before moving to Bridgend 16 years ago.  I completed my teaching degree at UWIC in Cardiff and have worked in various schools across Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Rhonnda Cynon Taff and Bridgend.  I am enthusiastic and passionate about working at St David’s CIW and am excited to help the children reach their full potential.  My roles and responsibilities at St David’s along with being the Nursery teacher is to develop the children’s Health and Wellbeing along with helping the school become a Rights Respecting School.  I was delighted that we were able to gain the Silver Award last year and hope to gain the Gold Award this year.  I am very busy with my daughter (who is 14) outside of school and enjoy helping her look after her horse called Eleri.  I also have 3 dogs called Sophia, Cooper and Zara along with five cats (Louis, Adara, Nathan, Coco and Prince!) and some fish!!

Deputy Headteacher

Mrs Victoria Foster

I am delighted to be a part of a wonderful school community where developing resilient, respectful and compassionate lifelong learners is at the heart of what we do. I am passionate about supporting learners and staff to be the best that they can be and love enabling the children to lead their own learning, asking questions, deepening their thinking and learning more about the diverse world around them.

Having been a member of the leadership team at St David's for the past 5 years, I am so proud of our school journey so far and look forward to the many exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

I am very excited to be working with you all again next year.

ALNCO

Miss Sarah Powell

I was very fortunate to join St David's in September 2020.  I am orginally from Merthyr Tydfil but I have lived in Cardiff for 5 years. I began my teaching career after completing my PGCE at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I previously taught across a range of year groups in a school in Ebbw Vale before joining the team at St David's. Outside of school, I love cycling, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy supporting children to achieve their very best. I am so pleased to be leading the Foundation Phase team at St David's this year and I look forward to working with you all.

Acting Deputy Head

Mr George Ashworth

I am delighted to be able to say that I am part of the St David's Team. I am incredibly committed and I can't wait to continue to develop, inspire and embody the Christian ethos and culture of our school.

Supporting all learners and staff to be the best that they can be is really very important to me. I can't wait to help everyone reach their full potential, whilst also continuing to learn myself. St David's has created a stimulating and supportive environment that allows all of their pupils to feel valued and inspired, and to experience success - this is a team that I feel privileged to be part of.

I can't wait to meet you all and begin my role as Temporary Deputy Headteacher.
