PE - Our P.E. slot will be on Fridays. Your child will need black shorts/jogging bottoms, a white T-shirt or house coloured T-shirt and trainers.  I will inform children of any one-off changes to PE days and will send a Schoop message to you as far in advance as possible. Our Learning this half term will focus on David Walliams' Fantastic First Book - The Boy in the Dress

Dennis loves football but he also loves fashion and Vogue magazine. His lorry-driving father and laddish older brother don’t like or understand his fascination with dresses and since his mother left home, he has no-one to turn to. Then Dennis meets Lisa, an older, cooler girl who wants to be a designer and with her help he realises that it’s ok to be different.

Despite its sensitive subject matter, this book is filled with humour -  the 1980s references to Neighbours and drinking Um-bongo will resonate with adults, while Dennis’ exploits with a host of quirky characters will amuse contemporary children. Fantastic illustrations from Quentin Blake complement the text perfectly.

During this topic, we will be exploring gender stereotypes and will be designing new clothes for Dennis in DT. In Science, we will be looking at functions within the body and different systems e.g. circulatory system. In Technology, We will be looking at Creating Multimedia. In maths, we will be exploring Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, revisiting place value and the 4 operations. In Literacy we will be looking at report writing, debates and multimedia presentations.

Medium Term Planning - Spring 2021

Weekly homework will be sent out each Friday in your child's Homework Book and will be due in the following Wednesday.

Each week, they will be asked to complete either a piece of numeracy or literacy based homework which will alternate from week to week.

There will also be a termly homework grid sent out based on our topic. Children may do as many homework tasks as they like over the course of the term. Please see below for this terms homework grid.

Children are allowed to complete their homework in whichever format they wish to choose. E.g hwb, PowerPoint, homework book, posters, etc.

There will be a celebration at the end of November sharing all of your fantastic home learning!

Spring Term Homework Planner

Topic Homework Planner - Choose One a Week alongside your Literacy or Numeracy homework

Reading - Reading is an extremely important part of your child's learning. We will take every opportunity to try and listen to your child read throughout the week, therefore, we would kindly ask that you ensure your child's reading book and diary are returned to school and are available on a daily basis. Pupils will also take part in group guided reading sessions everyday, where we will look at specific reading skills. Please try and support your child in reading every evening, encouraging them to read aloud and to complete their reading record each time they read

Spelling - Children will have weekly spelling sessions in school which will focus on a new spelling pattern. Children are encouraged to use these spelling patterns in lessons throughout the curriculum. We will not carry out weekly spelling tests. We will send spelling lists home for children to practise and in class we will be completing spelling activities and games which are designed to help reinforce the spelling patterns.

Our school Christian Value this term is Perseverance

This term in school we will be focussing on the value Perseverance. We will be hearing stories about being thankful from the Bible and examples from our daily lives. We hope that you will explore this value together at home too.

Very little that is really worthwhile in life can be achieved without perseverance. An athlete may train for years before they are ready to compete at the highest level. A musician must practice every day, sometimes for hours at a time, if they are to really master their instrument.

• How would each family member rate themselves on a scale of 1 - 10 at perseverance?

• Can you give an example of something you have achieved by determined perseverance?

• Is there a skill that you think you could improve with perseverance?

VIP's are chosen for their outstanding contribution in class each Friday. Will you be the next VIP?
