School of Sanctuary
Schools of Sanctuary
As a church school in Cardiff, we are extremely fortunate to be working towards becoming a School of Sanctuary. We believe it will allow learners, staff and the wider community to understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. We are really excited to be on this journey as it will provide valuable opportunities for the school to be recognised as a place of safety and inclusion to all.
What is a School of Sanctuary?
A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all, especially those seeking sanctuary.
This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

Schools of Sanctuary in St Davids
We are committed as a school to ensuring that the values of our school of sanctuary award are embedded in our teaching and learning across the school. It is important to us that these are taught across the school and year groups to ensure that there is an understanding of the challenges, situations and experiences refugees go through.
Refugee week 2025
We loved celebrating Refugee week at St Davids this year. We looked at refugees from 3 lenses: a school focus (how can we make our school more welcoming?), a national focus (What do our communities and Wales do to make people feel more welcome?) and at a global level (What are the global issues surrounding refugees?.
