Reading

Please bring your book to school every day. Children will be reading in school daily and we will ensure your child's book is changed when needed.

'Michael Recycle'

“Fuel, Fitness, and Future: Caring for Ourselves and Our Earth”

 

 

 

Our topic for the Summer Term, is 'Michael Recycle'. This topic is a Health and Wellbeing-based topic, and we will look closely at how we can care for our planet and ourselves.  We will explore how to keep our bodies fit and healthy during PE and Jigsaw lessons. We will make observations and predictions through our science work and begin to identify healthy food options. During our immersion day, we will begin to identify recyclable items and will try to reuse unwanted items to create new, useful and practical objects for our classroom and school. If you would like to help, please send in clean items of household rubbish that could be re-used e.g cardboard rolls, plastic bottles and bottle tops, cardboard boxes, old newspapers and magazines.

Pupil voice is very important to us at St David's. We look forward to generating more ideas together as a class for our new topic.

Each week, children will be asked to complete either a piece of numeracy or literacy-based homework which will alternate from week to week. There will also be a termly homework grid based on our topic. Children may do as many homework tasks as they like over the course of the term. 

Children are allowed to complete their homework in whichever format they wish to choose. E.g Hwb, PowerPoint, on paper, videos etc.

Read Write Inc is taught daily (Monday- Friday) across PS1 & 2. Children are grouped in according to their current ability. In each session we focus on identifying and learning Read Write Inc sounds; reading green and red words; and spelling green words.

Languagenut is a wonderful online tool where children can access resources to support the development of their new language. Each child will have their own log in details where they can gain points for activities completed. Languagenut will also give you the correct pronunciation of words and phrases.​​​​​​

At St David's we promote the use of 'SMART' rules daily, as we know how important it is to stay safe online.

The Curriculum for Wales is now statutory requirement since September 2022 for all schools in Wales. It has a key role to play in helping children and young people navigate the world safely. Welsh Government wants education to help our children to develop as healthy, confident individuals, ready for the next chapter in their life after school. Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) encompasses the knowledge, skills, dispositions and values that will empower learners to:

• Support their health and well-being
• Develop healthy, safe and fulfilling relationships of all kinds, including those with family and friends, and in time, romantic and sexual relationships
• Navigate and make sense of how relationships, sex, gender and sexuality shape their own and other people’s identities and lives
• Understand and support their rights and those of others to enjoy equitable, safe, healthy and fulfilling relationships throughout their lives.

Healthy snacks are provided at £2 per week which can be paid for half termly via parent pay or please provide one piece of fresh fruit or vegetable for your child's snack every day. We are a healthy eating school so only provide a healthy snack such as an apple, banana, carrot sticks, oranges etc. Please note that grapes need to be sliced longways. Children may bring a bottle of water with their name clearly labelled to school to drink. We are happy to refill their bottles for them during the day. We will provide milk daily to the children who want it.

As a school we have created a list of 101 experiences we believe all children should have the opportunity to explore. These are linked to the 4 purposes of the Curriculum for Wales. Once you have completed an experience, send a photo to Miss Bowen who will upload the experience to Seesaw. When you collect 5 of more experiences from each purpose you will be celebrated in our VIP assembly. Happy exploring!

As a school we are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint as part of our Eco schools awards. We record how we travel to school each day and gain badges and awards every month if we have met our target. Help us to travel safer and greener by walking, cycling or scooting to school! You could always park and stride or catch a bus.

This term we will be focusing on Articles  24, 25, 27 and 33-36  from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
