Welcome from the Head Teacher

Welcome to St David's C.I.W. Primary School

Croeso i Ysgol Gynradd Dewi Sant

Thank you for visiting our school website. St David’s Church in Wales Primary School is a faith school in Pentwyn, Cardiff. It serves an area in the north-east of the city. There are nine classes, including two nursery classes. The school is a Voluntary Aided Church in Wales School and is part of the Monmouth Diocese.

On behalf of the children, parents, staff and governors, I am delighted to introduce you to our school and trust that you will learn more about us on our web site. To keep up to date with what is happening in our school and all of the fun and learning together that the children enjoy please follow us on twitter @StDavidsCiWPrm.

The children think our school is special too and you can find out why as you browse our website. St. David’s Church in Wales Primary School is a happy, caring school built on the Christian principles of love, compassion and respect.

The school was inspected in the autumn of 2013 and received very positive reports from both Estyn  Inspectors and the Church in Wales Section 50 Inspector. The inspectors recognised the high standards of teaching and learning and a wealth of rich and varied experiences that are offered to the children, inside and outside the classroom. Together these make our school an exciting place to learn and work. The reports state that this is a good school with sector leading features.

These comments may give you a flavour of our school but a visit to see the children learning independently and collaboratively within a stimulating learning environment will give you an even better picture. We have embraced the Foundation Phase curriculum for 3 – 7 year olds and Curriculum 2008 for Key Stage 2 pupils. We also value learning outside the classroom – in clubs, at home, on school trips and residential visits.

The parents are very supportive of the school and, through The Parent Teacher Association (PTA), raise a significant sum of money which enriches the provision of the school. The school values its partnerships with parents and the wider school community and seeks to further these at every opportunity. Partnerships with parents was seen as Sector Leading by ESTYN in November 2013.

Rev’d Graeme Carby is the Chair of the Governing Body and is supported by a group of committed, well qualified governors. They meet 6 times a year in order to support the management and statutory duties of the school. They can be contacted via the school office.

We have an open door policy at the school. Please feel free to make an appointment to see me or to pop in to see me if you have any concerns or questions – my door is always open.

We hope that you will enjoy being a part of our school family. If you would like further information or a visit to the school, please ask. I look forward to getting to know you and your family.

We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.

Thank you for visiting!
