Lower Phase Team (Nursery, Reception &Y1)

Mrs Allen

Nursery Teacher

I have worked at St David’s primary school for the last 15 years. I am very passionate about children’s well being, I particularly enjoy watching children thrive and develop through messy play. I am proud to be part of such a nurturing team.

Mr Bates

Reception Teacher

I have worked at St David's since 2000, having become a teacher 3 years previously whilst in my 30s. Prior to being a teacher, I worked for several small, specialist banks in Cardiff. I am married with 4 children. My wife is also a primary school teacher. My eldest daughter is a lecturer at Bristol Vet School, my middle daughter graduated in 2017 and is currently working and travelling abroad. My two youngest children (Libby and Max) are at Bro Edern Welsh Medium High School. Outside of school I play golf and cricket (both badly!). As a former rugby player, I  watch most sports. I also read a lot and enjoy walking our spaniel!

Mrs Joanna Voisey

Teaching Assistant Reception am and Nursery pm

I taught for twelve years, six in Cyprus after which I came to Cardiff  where I continued to teach until taking a break to focus on family. I'm delighted to be back in the lively environment of a primary school, and to be part of the team at St David's. I love the warm, caring family atmosphere of this school, so much so that I've entrusted the education of my own children to St David's.

Mrs Clair Hughes

Year 1 Class Teacher

Originally from Taunton, I came to Cardiff to do my teaching degree. I graduated in 1996 with a BA hons in Education. I met my husband and got married in 1997 the same year that I began working at St David's C/W Primary school. Having taught the Reception class for many years I am now teaching some of my original pupil's children, which is lovely! I have two wonderful children and I like to spend any spare time with my family, walking our dog 'Griff'.

Mrs Gemma Fergusson

Year 1 Teaching Assistant

I have worked at St David's Church in Wales Primary School for 18 years. I love my job and think it is a privilege to work with and help shape the minds of our wonderful children .

I have two children of my own at home. I have a daughter who has recently started high school and a son who is in year 2. I love to spend time with my family and friends. We do lots of fun things and have been on many adventures together. Exercise and being active is a huge part of mine and my families life .

I have worked at St Davids for the past 13 years, working with all children from Nursery to year 6.

Five years ago, I got my HLTA qualification and started working with ALN pupils throughout the school. I live with my husband and our dog 'Sweep'. Sweep is a cocker spaniel, he is absolutely mad and keeps us very busy!
